Ministry of Interior’s initiatives strengthen UAE’s leadership in human rights
ABU DHABI/ Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nakhira, Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Interior, has affirmed the importance of human rights as one of the characteristic features of the UAE and the Ministry, through various national, regional and international initiatives, which ensures its implementation and enhances the leadership of the state.

He said the Ministry of Interior is concerned with maintaining the freedom, rights, and dignity of the members of society, as guaranteed by the constitution of the state and its laws and legislation, derived from the values and teachings of Islam.

Brigadier Nakhira highlighted the continuous follow-up and close cooperation with the leaders and the police departments to guarantee human rights.

He also emphasised the need to be united and put forward new ideas to enhance and promote the culture of human rights, and implement the tasks of the committee to achieve results that foster cooperation and coordination to give back to the nation.

The Human Rights Committee of the Ministry of Interior, headed by Nakhira, held its fifteenth meeting at the Police Officers Club in Al Ain in the presence of Brigadier Mohammad Ali Al Shehhi, Deputy-Director of the Human Rights Department, as well as officers and members of the committee.

The Chairman of the Committee expressed his appreciation to the members for their efforts in implementing the recommendations of the Universal Periodic Report on Human Rights, which was submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The State report is scheduled to be discussed before the Human Rights Council early next year.

The members discussed the Ministry's obligations, as stated in the United Nations Racial Discrimination Committee report in the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination, which was discussed in Geneva last August.
